Interested in chaperoning Band Events?
The
upcoming school year provides a great opportunity
for parents to be involved with their student’s
activities. We will have many opportunities to have
a large number of people involved. This helps make
the year enjoyable and fun for everyone. In
addition to Band Camp there are home football games,
at least one away football game, competitions around
the Valley, in-state and out-of-state festivals, and
general support activities for all of our
performance groups.
Starting this year, the Scottsdale Unified School
District (SUSD) has implemented new requirements for
parent volunteers. On Thursday evening, July 20, SUSD
taped the
training session and a DVD will be made available to the Band Directors soon.
Chaperones that were unable to
attend on July 20th will need to view the
video and sign a document affirming that they have
viewed the video. Contact a Band Booster for
more information.
Arizona State Tax Credit
Did
you know that the Arizona State Tax Credit can help
you pay for a large portion of your band
activities? For example, SUSD has ruled that 100%
of Band Camp can be paid for with Tax Credit money.
And you don’t have to be the only one taking
advantage of the tax credit. Print out several
copies of the Tax Credit form from the band website
and take it to your friends, neighbors, or relatives
(not necessarily in that order). They can
contribute the maximum based on their tax status and
designate your Band student or the Band program as
the recipient. Then when filing the Arizona State
Income Tax for 2010, the money comes back as a
direct credit to the amount of taxes owed. It’s
simple, it’s painless, and everyone can feel a
little better about paying their income tax.
