April 5, 2007

Meeting attendees:

Francine Porter           Nathan Porter                Kathy Komlos           Ella Bristow                 Kathy Hermanson

Dede Powers                Bob Ingram

Announcements:  Bob Ingram re-capped the Spring Tour and announced the awards won by the Band. Way to go Dons’!

Secretary’s Report:  (As posted on the website)

Kathy Hermanson motioned to accept the March minutes. Nathan Porter seconded. Motion passed. There was no correspondence.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s Report was presented. Student accounts category is in the negative. This is because costs of the Spring Tour have put us in the red. Kathy H. will give a list to Doc on Monday of the students who still need to pay. Francine Porter motioned to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Ella Bristow seconded. Motion passed.

Fundraisers:

Great Video Productions: The request for the Boosters to hand out flyers at the ASU and High School Graduations was discussed. We need many volunteers. We will email parents asking for help. We discussed having all of the money go into the General Fund or splitting it with the student accounts.

The Coupon Books are completed and have arrived. Francine will meet with Doc Bennett to get them distributed to the students for sale. The breakdown of funds from the sale is as follows:

Coupons sold                           Student Accounts/Gen Fund

0-5                                                     50/50

6-19                                                                                                                                75/25

20+                                                    100/0

Someone will have to monitor fund collections, as Doc is not allowed to. It was suggested that the incoming Supai students could also sell over the summer.

Time Share: Simple Fundraiser made a presentation at the meeting. The CHS Band Boosters are registered to participate in the sales presentations at the Legacy Golf Resort at I-10 and Baseline. Couples can go to the resort to hear a sales presentation for timeshare purchases.  Couples must have combined annual salary of $75,000.00 to participate. Each couple receives $100.00 (given to the Boosters) for a 90 minute no-obligation presentation. Each qualified couple who attends the presentation will also receive incentives such as restaurant gift certificates or movie passes (see details on handout or on the website, www.donsband.org  The Boosters can earn money by referring other organizations, as well, and will be paid monthly for activity. We discussed a 50/50 split of money between the General Fund and student accounts. This would be a good way for students to earn money for Band Camp. Francine will talk to Simple Fundraiser to get details on the possibility of splitting funds. Francine will also speak to the CHS PTO for referral possibility.

Graduation Water Sales:  Boosters will sell bottled water at Graduation on June 6, 2007. We already have water, but volunteers are needed to help.

Business:

The band Uniforms need to be cleaned as soon as possible. Students who did not turn in cleaning fee will be given their uniforms and asked to have them cleaned. Kathy H will provide a list to Dede Powers, who will send other (paid) uniforms to cleaners.

A motion was made by Francine to spend not in excess of $125.00 for awards for the David Sampson Award to previous years’ Guard members. The award is given each year to a deserving Color Guard member in honor of a former member who lost his life in a tragic auto accident. Plates for mounting onto rifles will be ordered for 2 past recipients who have yet to receive their awards .  Kathy H seconded the motion, and it passed.

Band Camp: Band Camp is set for August 6-11, 2007 at Mingus Mountain. The Penske truck rental agent we have used in the past for renting the equipment truck has moved. Bob I will use another dealer in North Scottsdale or Chandler, and the cost will be $846.00 for the week. Doc has permission to miss teacher in-service that week.

Band Banquet: The Band Banquet/Awards Ceremony will be June 1, 2007, probably at Scottsdale Baptist Church. We discussed having just an awards ceremony with dessert instead of a dinner, due to costs. We still have to pay for this year’s awards. Kathy H will check on costs related to dinner, awards and facility rental.

Ella B motioned to adjourn the meeting. Nathan P seconded. Motion passed.
