Booster Meeting Minutes

July 31, 2008

Fundraisers:

Sale of Generator/Balloon Machine : Details of the sale of our generator and a balloon machine will be posted on Craig’s List.

Community Partners: Although the chain no longer requires shopper’s cards, Albertson’s will continue to offer the Community Partners fundraiser. There are new cards which are available from the Band Boosters or from Doc Bennett. Rewards earned from store purchases go to the Band Boosters.

Business:

Band Camp: Doc Bennett introduced himself and welcomed new and returning band members. This year’s Marching Show is Fiddler on the Roof.

I. Band Camp

A. Extracurricular Activity Form (District Tax Credit form required for camp payment). This must be turned in by 8/1/08.

B. Payments: Anyone who has not paid for camp, please do so.

C. Benefits/Bonding at camp. Traditions of the Dons Band.

D. Reminder that parents must pick up their child from camp on Saturday 8/9/08. There is a show for the parents at 10:00 am. Maps are available online at donsband.org .Your child will need written permission to ride home with someone else.

E. Code of Conduct/Rules/Expectations

1. No hazing, no initiations.

2. Be on time.

3. High elevation warning: sunburn/dehydration. Hats recommended.

4. Packing list.

5. No illegal substances.

6. Hair braiding required for female and male students with hair below the collar. Will be taught at camp.

7. Care of Band Room: no gum, no food, no caps, no sunglasses, no drinks other than water, students must chaperone any visitors. Suspicious activity will be reported. Honesty is expected.

II. Marching Season (performances are required)

A. Competitions: Mountain Pointe, Gilbert, ASU and State

B. Away Games: Greenway, Arcadia

C. Marching Exhibition: SUSD Exhibition

D. Home Games (see calendar)

E. Graduation (required performance)

F. Two week notice in writing for missed performances. If an emergency, call or email Doc.

III. Grading Policy

A. Every day is worth 20 points

B. Points taken off for tardies, missing equipment, missed performances, conduct violations

IV. Uniform Guidelines

A. Introduction of uniform “Moms”, Dede Powers and Kathy Komlos

B. Rules:

a. Wear entire uniform or none at all

b. Wear full uniform in public, jacket zipped

c. No eating or drinking (except water) while in uniform

d. Only sit on fanny runners

V. Tax Credit Donations

A. Band is growing, will now need 2 busses for competitions. Costs are going up. District only pays for 1 bus, Boosters have to pay for other ($280.00 plus driver fee) and equipment truck

C. Support- need help at games with water, fanny runners, concessions; also need help fundraising.

a. ASU Home Games concessions are a chance to earn money for student accounts and for the Boosters. Need 6 or more people for each game to work food stand on the Loge deck. Sign up and info on website.
